Psychedelic rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. They reached their highest charting success in the USA in 1966 with I Had To Much to Dream Last Night (peaking at 11). They released two albums in 1967: The Electric Prunes: I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night) and Underground. They broke up in 1968 while recording the third album, Mass in F Minor, produced by David Axelrod who completed the album using session musicians and a Canadian band, Collectors, The . A fourth album, Release of an Oath, was released in 1968, also produced by David Axelrod, with session musicians backing up the vocals by The Electric Prunes. RS 6275 (30,713)

It consists of a musical setting of the mass sung in Latin and Greek and arranged in the psychedelic style of the band, and was written and arranged by David Axelrod. Following the limited commercial success of the Electric Prunes' previous album, Underground, the band's manager Lenny Poncher and their producer Dave Hassinger, whose company owned the rights to the band name, agreed with Reprise. For fans of the Electric Prunes, the 1968 Reprise album Mass in F Minor is a disaster, but for aficionados of failed and bizarre concept records of the late '60s, it's definitely worth investigating. The eight tracks on this religious-based rock opera with lyrics sung in Latin were written, arranged, and conducted by classical composer David Axelrod and spurred on by then-Prunes manager Lenny Poncher and record producer Dave Hassinger.
